A beautiful angel fell graciously from the heavens and landed smoothly upon
the Earth which God hath made. The angel noticed a young woman sitting on a
park bench, her head bent low, her eyes fixated upon the lightly
snow-covered ground. White pigeons gathered about her feet in hopes of
being offered some food, but the young woman did not appear to have noticed
them.
The angel had a special mission she must carry out and she now knew this
mission was to be carried out through this young woman before her. She must
approach this young woman with extreme caution and gentleness. The angel
choose to keep her identity and presence a secret.
Disbelief is most common among those who are gifted enough to walk God's
Earth. She couldn't have that get between the young lady and her mission
today. The angel got close to the woman without her taking notice. She
noticed the woman was quite distraught. "A decision she must make quickly
torments her soul," the angel pondered. The angel had been watching over
the young woman very closely for some time now. She had seen the events of
the woman's life unfold since the birth of her child. . . a child she
worked so hard to conceive. She saw the joys that child brought to the
woman's life, and now sees the
sadness that is killing her little by little, with each passing day.
The angel had questioned her mission before God, not fully understanding
the purpose of this woman's tragedy. The angel learned a hard lesson . .
one must never question Gods reasoning. We should all be thankful for what
little time we are given rather than question the events along the way.
However, it is completely normal to doubt Gods ways and converse over the
Faith. He understands.
The young woman's cards lay upon the table. She must make a choice, a
choice that will effect her for the rest of her life. She must choose the
right card in order to live her life as God had intended. The angel was
sent down for guidance, solace, and to instill the faith that once lived
strongly within her.
The angel took her place beside the young woman and placed her hand upon
the young woman's cold hand. The young woman lifted her head up, her eyes
no longer averted to the snow covered ground but to the pigeons that had
gathered around her. Her cold fingers now felt an extreme warmth. . . as if
she had been holding her hand in front of a blazing fire. Strangely, she
noticed the fingers on her left hand were cold and
numb from the cool air.
Her eyes wandered about her; in front of her, behind her, and both sides of
her, and saw nothing out of the ordinary. She did notice a small group of
children skating upon the ice of the pond. She did not recall the children
being there earlier. Maybe it was because she did not care to notice.
The angel got up and stood behind the young woman, wrapped both her arms
around the young woman and hugged her tightly. The young woman felt a deep
warmth spread through out her body. . . a certain warmth she had not felt
in months. A warmth she had not felt since she held her four year old
daughter in her arms. Tears began to well up in the corner of her eyes as
certain memories wandered within her mind freely. Memories
she tried to block out from time to time... The angel sensed her
weakness, her pain, and her sorrow and grasped the young woman so tightly
she could feel the woman's heart beating.
The young woman squirmed her seat as she felt a strong pull within her.
She felt a burning sensation evolve through the whole upper half of her
body and spread widely with in her. Her heart thumped wildly as she
realized she was being watched. She looked about her once again, expecting
to see a stranger towering behind her. Still, she did not notice anything
out of the ordinary. The same group of children were still skating on the
pond.
Comfort washed over her as she watched the children skate happily across
the pond. Their arms flailed wildly about them as their legs moved fast
from side to side. Laughter echoed loudly in her ears, their smiling faces
brought a smile to her own face and she began to feel delight as she
watched. Children are really a true miracle of life and to be part of
giving a child life is a special gift.
Upon watching the children in delight and feeling a sudden love and warmth,
a certain fulfillment to an empty black space she has lived in for three
months, she suddenly felt relieved in some way. She now knew what she must
do. . . what she desired to do. The young woman stood on her feet and
briskly walked back to the hospital, where her daughter waited for her
patiently. The angel followed the young woman to make sure the mission
would be carried out.  When the young woman arrived, she noticed the couple
she had met a few weeks ago. They sat in the patient waiting room, all
holding hands and softly praying for a miracle. The young woman wanted to
walk over to them and reassure them they will have their miracle but first
she must
look at her daughter one last time. She slowly entered her daughter's room,
stood in the doorway and looked at the machine that was keeping her
physically alive.
She heavily sighed, silently prayed to God, asking him to give her strength
as she slowly walked over to her daughter. Her daughter lay so helpless in
the crib, her eyes were open. She looked like a china doll with glass inset
eyes. The young woman bent down and placed a kiss upon her daughter's
cheek. She grabbed her tiny hand and caressed her small fingers with her
own, as she spoke softly to her child. Every time she had done this, she
had hoped it would bring her daughter back, but too much time had passed.
The young woman now realized she is
only prolonging her daughter's departure, prolonging the couple's
daughter's illness, only to satisfy her own need that can no longer truly
be fulfilled.
The angel takes her place at the other side of the young woman's
daughter. Her own heart aches while she watches a mother say goodbye to her
child. The tears streamed down the young woman's cheeks, a half smile curls
upon her lips as she speaks her last words, and kisses her daughters cheek
one last time. The young woman then walks out the door to find the doctor
and talk to the couple who await anxiously. The angel remained at the
child's bedside. It would soon be time to direct the child's soul to the
heavens.
Upon hearing her news, the couple graciously and lovingly hugged the young
woman. Tears of joy filled their eyes but a certain sadness was in the air.
To trade one life for another did not seem fair. The young woman accepted
it because she knew her child would still live on, even perhaps only
through another child. The young woman left the couple's side to return to
her daughter.
The doctor met her in her daughters room, looked at the woman one last time
to make sure she was sure of her decision. The woman nodded her head, and
the doctor unplugged the machine. The child's chest rose slowly, then
dropped downward. The young mother had hopes of her daughter breathing on
her own, but she then understood it was not possible any longer. She held
her daughter's hand tightly as she took her last breath.
The young woman left her daughters bedside and stood in front of the door.
She looked longingly one last time and noticed a gleam of light shining
brightly upon where she had just stood a moment ago. The young woman
stepped closer to the form of light and saw a woman with long golden hair
and lovely wings protruding from her back. She gasped and clutched her
heart as she realized she was looking in the eyes of an angel. She looked
at the doctor but the doctor was busy preparing her daughter's body.
Her eyes gazed once more at the gleaming light and beside the angel stood
her daughter. Her daughter smiled brightly as she held the angel's hand.
Finally at peace with herself and her decision, she returned her
daughter's smile. The angel felt the woman's peace, strongly felt her faith
re-instilled once again, so she and the child faded away, destined for the
heavens at last.
The young woman left the doctor to do what he must. To perform his miracle
for another family, using her daughter's heart.
"I promise to keep the memories alive, forever and always, my sweet child."
